Start with my recent favorite and quite successful finding;
“Lagu Untukmu” by Bubi Chen Quartet / “Kwartet Irama” (Irama, 1969)
These selected “evergreens” tophits during the period between 1943 and 1945 played in a new musical form. Mix of the monotonic “langgam” melodies, touch of krontjong music and rythmical jazz represents the old music in a new, modern and more progressive shape. Influential masterpieces performed by the pioneers of Indonesian jazz music;
Bubi Chen - Piano (Leader)
Jack Lemmers (Jack Lesmana) - Guitar, Glockenspiel
Atje - Drums
Sarono - String-bass
Side I :
- Sinandi - nandi
- Djembatan Merah
- Pohon Beringin
- Irama Mesra
- Saputangan dari Bandung Selatan
- Tirtonadi
Side II :
- Mande - mande
- Gerbang Nirwana
- Pulau Djawa
- Lagu Untukmu
- Minapadi
- Saputangan
New song, still a short version. Here i’m using a lot of indonesian music scales, just trying to squeeze in the pentatonic scale and some west sumatran patterns into the song. I guess it’s not quite finished, at least you’ll get the big picture of what i’m trying to make. hope you enjoy it :)
